Splendor is a resource management game in which players, between two and four, compete to collect the most points. The story of the game is that players take on the roles of merchants during the Renaissance and must try their best to my gem mines, transportation and shops in order to win. The game is a race game, and there is not much room for wasted actions. This is especially true since there is no catch up mechanic in the game. If you get a nice collection of cards in your tableau, especially ones that are worth prestige points, it could be hard for a player that made early mistakes to catch you. If you want to avoid the aggressive strategy, play to 21 points. It really evens out the engine building vs top-level aggressive strategy in a way that works nicely. It only adds a couple of rounds to the game. Also, it’s much harder to win at 2-player with an aggressive strategy. It’s currently my favorite way to play. Like Like Splendor was the 2014 Golden Geek game of the year. It is very polished, easy to learn, and fun to play. The strategy is relatively simple, but the execution is difficult. Summary below. Reserve the cards you want early on; Take 3 chips in early turns; Reserve cards that cost all of the same color; Choose two colors that you will own, and buy them up The goal of the game is to build the most impressive jewel trade and become the best-known merchant in the world. The player with the most prestige points wins the game.
